Faith in God Olympics

For Activity Days in July, we held a Faith in God Olympics.  We played water games that gave the girls the opportunity to review the requirements for Faith in God, My Gospel Standards, and Articles of Faith 1-6.  It was a lot of fun and a perfect hot summer day to get wet.  Plus we had some visitors play in the Games making it a lot more fun!  Here are the games we played.

1.  Fill Your Faith in God Bucket
The kids were split into two teams.  We reviewed the requirements for Faith in God:  attend church, pay tithing, honor your parents, keep the commandments, read scriptures, and pray daily.  We talked about how you can't fill your Faith in God without doing these things.  You have to actively fill your Faith in God.  So the object of this game was to see which team could fill their Faith in God bucket first.

On the side of the bucket were the requirements for filling your Faith in God.  Then I made sponge bombs. The teams lined up in a row with a bucket of water on one end and the Faith in God bucket at the other.  The team members soaked the sponge bomb in the water bucket and passed it down the line to the team member with the Faith in God bucket.  The team member then squeezed the water into the bucket and passed the sponge bomb back.  They continued to pass the bombs until the bucket was filled.  The kids had fun and got very wet!

2.  Bobbing for Standards

The purpose of this game was to review My Gospel Standards.  I wrote My Gospel Standards on the driveway with chalk.  Each team had a baby pool with floating ducks.  I also put little, plastic guppy fish in the pool for fun (the girls didn't think the fish were as cool as I thought).  On the bottom of the the ducks I wrote a Gospel Standard.  A team member started at the top of the Gospel Standard list and ran to the pool to find the duck with the Gospel Standard.  Once she found the duck, she placed the duck next to the written standard on the driveway and tagged her next teammate.  The team who found all the Gospel Standards first, won.

3.  Articles of Faith Relay

The Articles of Faith relay required the girls to put the Articles of Faith in order.  Each team was given 3 Articles of Faith, with the Articles of Faith cut up into 3 to 4 word phrases.  One team member ran through a sprinkler to a board and found which phrase went next in the Article of Faith.  I think the girls had the most fun thinking of different ways to run through the sprinkler!

Then it was time for a WATER FIGHT!

Closing Ceremonies

At the end, I talked about how Olympic athletes don't just get a medal.  They train and work hard to qualify for the Olympics and the athletes work hard to earn a medal.  I gave the kids a Faith in God gold medal to remind them to work hard towards their Faith in God so that they can earn their award.
